The ritual, sacramental action of thanksgiving to God which constitutes the principal Christian liturgical celebration of and communion in the paschal mystery of Christ.
The liturgical action called the Eucharist is also traditionally known as the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
It is one of seven sacraments of the Church; the Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation (CCC 1322).
The Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life (CCC 2177).

First Eucharist at St. Pius X

To prepare for a Sacramental Celebration at St. Pius X the child needs to have foundational catechesis; which means that the he/she has participated in at least one year of Faith Formation or Catholic School the year immediately prior to the year she/he prepares for a sacramental celebration.

The preparation to celebrate First Eucharist is done separately from the regular catechetical programs that the child is enrolled in, either in one of our Faith Formation Programs or as a student at St. Pius X Catholic School.

Criteria of Readiness to Prepare for and Celebrate First Eucharist:

  • Baptized in the Roman-Catholic Church
  • Celebrate Mass on a weekly basis
  • Foundational Catechesis
  • At least 7 years old, which is the age of reason per Canon Law
  • A desire to receive the Eucharist.
  • Understand that the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ and not ordinary bread and wine
  • Having prepared for and celebrated First Reconciliation prior to preparing for celebration of First Eucharist


There will be preparation for First Eucharist in the Fall of 2019 as well as in the Spring of 2020.

Fall Preparation 2019

Spring Preparation

  • Registration open February 10  – March 16, 2020
  • Parent Meetings was Tuesday, March 10, 2020 6:30 pm in the School Library and
    Sunday, March 15, 2020, 12:30 pm in the Parish Center (Matthew).
  • Mini-Retreats for Parents and Candidates planned for Sunday, March 29, 2020, 12:30 – 2 pm, AND
    Sunday, April 19, 2020, 12:30- 2 pm – if the situation is improved with Coronavirus (COVID-19), otherwise it will be rescheduled.
    The First Mini-Retreat will be an “At Home Retreat,” materials will be sent home to families.
    The second one will start in the Church.
  • Celebrations of First Eucharist are still planned for

April 25, 2020 – 5 Mass;
April 26, 2020 – 10:30 Mass
May 3, 2020 – 8:30 Mass and 10:30 Mass
May 9, 2020 – 5 Mass
